The Erasmus Student Network (ESN) is one of the biggest interdisciplinary student associations in Europe. Founded in 1989 with the goal of supporting and developing student exchange, ESN is located in 40 different countries and spread over 460 local sections throughout all of Europe. It is a dynamic and diverse body that constantly developing and operates on the local, national and international levels.
Our main focus is to successfully integrate and help all students. Now, more than ever, building a strong society requires protection and security, which begins by ensuring that every new environment is safe, secure and hospitable. Irregardless of where you come from, we will always be there for you. ESN offers help in the academic, social and practical integration processes, through activities on all three levels. From pubcrawls, to movie nights, to parties, to excursions in the Netherlands and trips across Europe with our partners, we are constantly reshaping our futures. And with the dynamic evolution of the Buddy Program, we revoke the concept of strangers and accept that of friends for life. Our resolve has never been stronger.
For All Students. Always.
Today, ESN Wageningen is one of the largest and oldest student associations in Wageningen. With more than 800 active members and many more who have transfered nationally and internationally, we are proud to be the largest international organisation in Wageningen. With more than 100 activities and events per year, and many trips and excursions, we encourage students of all backgrounds, disciplines and interests to join us for an unforgettable experience.
Currently, the board of ESN Wageningen consists of four members who officially work part-time and full-time to provide the best possible experience for all students in Wageningen.
We also have two distinct committees, which consist of ten members that work part-time. The Activity Committee helps organise and promote some activities and is headed by our Activity Coordinator. The Excursions Committee helps organise and promote some trips in the Netherlands and is headed by our Treasurer.
ESN Wageningen started in 2003 as a committee that was part of the student association K.S.V Franciscus. Known as K.S.V International, the association organised regular activities and events that would help and promote the integration between Dutch and international students into Dutch society.
In 2007, K.S.V International decided to join the Erasmus Student Network and rebrand as IxESN Wageningen. In 2009, the first official board was elected and in 2019, the association became what it is today.
Just as our image and indepedence, so have our office and headquarters of operations changed. In the beginning, our office could be found at K.S.V. Franciscus’ own personal building, however, that has changed. Currently, you can find us at the Global Lounge behind Student Plaza on the university’s campus. This has been largely due to the actions and efforts of the Wageningen University, Liesbeth van der Linden and the boards of ESN Wageningen from 2016-2017 onwards.
